Training Day at Markover Shooting Preserve

Jen and Kurt took a few of the gun dogs today up to Markover Preserve. With the temps in the 60's, we had a wonderful day in the field! The dogs did outstanding with their upland drills. Several of the dogs who are seasoned hunters got to work on quartering, tracking, steadiness to flush and shot. Puppies got to chase birds, track and have a blast. Jen's GSP Elsie is coming along with her training and had several nice points on chukkars. All in all, a fun day in the field and wonderful to see how the dogs are coming along! Back at the kennels, the other trainers were busy working other pups with the basic obedience, manners, and desensitizing.

Sounds great Jen! We had 50 degree weather here today and went out to do our homework from Friday's great lesson with Maggie!! You gave us so much great stuff to work on that we didn't get to it all. We only did 2 quail but spread them apart in a large field still covered with snow. Maggie got immediately down to business and found both quails.

The smaller one she brought back the correct way (instead of by it's head!). Wish I had a camera to show you how proud she was. She tried a little bit of "keep away" and I used your trick of turning and walking away instead of going for the check cord - it worked beautifully and she came right to me with the bird. We also did a couple of "marks" and she was very happy to dash after them and bring them to us.

Thanks a lot for the great lesson and looking forward to this Friday!
